Orthodontics . . . Not just for Kids
Cosmetic dentistry is commonly known as the way to obtaining a great smile. However, many people find the newest cosmetic solutions are far too expensive to be practical and few people realize there are a number of affordable options with adult orthodontics and bleaching treatments to enhance the smile.
Dr. Howard Sommers, D.D.S., of Signature Dentistry, is known for his unique approach to adult orthodontics. “There are two misconceptions about adult orthodontics. One, that wire braces are the only solution and that it takes years to correct a smile with orthodontics,"states Sommers, whose practice has thrived in the same North East Scottsdale location since 1995.
Typically, adults are looking for the way to achieve a great smile in the shortest amount of time. Dr. Sommers, explains there are three primary options when it comes to adult orthodontics.
Option 1 – Temporary appliances. If the primary concern is just the front teeth, the smile can be enhanced with a removable appliance and results can be achieved in as little as a few months.
“This line of treatment is surprisingly affordable and can save patients thousands of dollars over more aggressive treatments,"Says Sommers
Option 2 – Invisalign. Invisalign has gained a tremendous amount of popularity over the past few years. Invisalign is a series of removable, clear aligners that are custom fit to promote an invisible way of straightening teeth. Results range from 4 to 18 months.
"Invisalign was simple and no hassle. I didn't have to worry about what I ate or if my smile was distracting when I was interacting professionally. It was a good value and I am really happy with the result,"According to Darren Archer, Client of Signature Dentistry.
Option 3 – Conventional braces. In addition to traditional metal braces, braces can also be made from ceramic or plastic to be less noticeable. Braces are often the option when teeth are rotated in addition to being crooked. Correcting severely rotated teeth can be achieved in as little as 6 months.
Dr. Sommers goes on to explain, an initial consultation with your dentist is the place to start. Together you will plan your treatment goals and align them with your budget. Your treatment could include more than one of the above options along with other smile solutions such as veneers.
“The single most powerful investment a person can make in their appearance is in their smile,"states Sommers.
