What Is an NTI Night Guard?

An NTI night guard (also known as an NTI-tss device) is a small, custom-fitted mouthpiece designed to prevent clenching and grinding while you sleep.

Unlike traditional full-arch guards that simply cushion the teeth, the NTI works by gently relaxing the jaw muscles and reducing the bite force that causes pain and wear.

This helps:

  • Protect your teeth from damage and fractures

  • Prevent tension headaches and migraines

  • Reduce TMJ pain, facial soreness, and neck tension

  • Improve sleep quality and comfort

Why People Grind or Clench Their Teeth

Teeth grinding (bruxism) often happens subconsciously - usually during sleep or stressful moments.

It can be triggered by:

  • Stress or anxiety

  • Bite alignment issues

  • Sleep apnea or airway obstruction

  • Certain medications or lifestyle habits

Over time, this habit can cause:

  • Worn or flattened teeth

  • Chipped fillings or cracked enamel

  • Tooth sensitivity

  • Earaches, facial pain, or jaw stiffness

  • Morning headaches and disrupted sleep

How the NTI Night Guard Works

Traditional night guards protect the teeth but don’t stop the jaw muscles from clenching.

The NTI night guard works differently - it prevents the back teeth from contacting, which naturally reduces the intensity of the jaw’s clenching reflex.

This leads to:

  1. Relaxed jaw muscles overnight

  2. Fewer migraines and less tension pain

  3. Better protection for teeth and dental work

  4. Improved breathing and comfort during sleep

Dr. Sommers precisely fits each NTI device in our Scottsdale office to ensure it’s comfortable, effective, and unobtrusive - so you can sleep peacefully without irritation or airway interference.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

  1. Evaluation: Dr. Sommers will examine your bite, TMJ, and wear patterns.

  2. Custom Fitting: We’ll take impressions or digital scans to craft a personalized NTI device.

  3. Follow-Up: You’ll receive instructions on use and care, plus a quick follow-up visit to ensure comfort and optimal results.

The fitting process is quick, easy, and completely non-invasive. Most patients adjust within a few nights and notice relief almost immediately.

“The NTI is one of the simplest, most effective ways to reduce tension and protect your smile.”

– Dr. Sommers
